What information we collect

When you use Byline, we collect the following:

• Account information — your name and email address when you sign up.
• Submission data — titles, genres, word counts, cover letters, and manuscript files you upload or enter into the platform.
• Usage data — basic information about how you use Byline, such as which pages you visit. We do not sell this data.

How we use your information

• To operate the platform and provide the services you signed up for.
• To send you email notifications about your submissions (status updates, acceptances, withdrawals).
• To notify publications when they receive a new submission.
• To improve the platform over time.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Ever.

Who we share your information with

We use a small number of trusted services to run Byline:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored securely on their infrastructure.
• Resend — our email delivery provider. Used only to send transactional emails (submission alerts, status updates).
• Vercel — our hosting provider.

When you submit a piece to a publication through Byline, your name, email address, and submission content are shared with that publication as part of the service.

Your content

You own your writing. Always. Byline does not claim any rights to manuscripts, cover letters, or any creative content you upload or submit through the platform. We store your files solely to facilitate the submission process.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you would like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at hello@bylinepro.com and we will remove it within 30 days.

Cookies

Byline uses session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and row-level database security so users can only access their own information. No system is 100% secure, but we take this seriously.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify active users by email and update the date at the top of this page.
