Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2025

Agreement

By creating an account or using Byline at bylinepro.com, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms apply to all users — writers, publications, and visitors.

What Byline is

Byline is a submission management platform that helps writers track their work and helps publications manage their incoming submissions. We facilitate the connection between writers and publications — we are not a publisher, literary agency, or party to any editorial decisions.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • One person or organization per account — you may not share accounts.

Your content

You own your writing. By uploading or submitting content through Byline, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the service — for example, passing your manuscript to the publication you submitted to.

You represent that you have the right to submit any content you upload, and that doing so does not violate anyone else's rights.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Byline to:

  • Submit content you do not own or have rights to.
  • Harass, impersonate, or deceive other users or publications.
  • Spam publications with unsolicited or fraudulent submissions.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the platform.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, flood, or abuse the platform.
  • Upload content that is illegal, harmful, or violates anyone's rights.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms.

Publication accounts

Publications using Byline agree to handle writer submissions with reasonable care and professionalism. You are responsible for the editorial decisions you make on the platform. Byline is not liable for any disputes between writers and publications regarding acceptances, rejections, or editorial decisions.

Billing

Some features of Byline require a paid subscription. Pricing is listed on our homepage. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis. You may cancel at any time and will retain access through the end of your billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial months.

Availability

We aim to keep Byline running reliably, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

Limitation of liability

Byline is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform — including but not limited to missed submission deadlines, lost manuscripts, or editorial decisions made by publications. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@bylinepro.com. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the jurisdiction where Byline operates.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify active users by email and update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Byline after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
